Making Music with my little friends at Umlauf Sculpture Garden

Amy Hackerd was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. After attending Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, for vocal performance, she went west looking for the sun and ended up back in the practice rooms at Arizona State University where she double majored in Music Therapy and Music Theatre Performance. She then moved to NYC and lived abroad for ten years. Her eclectic vocal career has taken her from singing with the Detroit Met Opera to conducting music therapy at nursing homes. Upon moving to Austin with her two children, she continued to thrive musically by performing with the Rude Mechanicals in the award winning, “I’ve Never Been So Happy”, winning best original musical with the Austin Critic Awards. In addition, she dove back into opera and was Schaunard in LOLA’s La Femme Boheme (an all female version of La Boheme), which also won an Austin Critic Award!! Amy continues to do studio sessions as a back up singer for artists such as Christeene, little cabarets with Austin’s talent, Peter Stopschinski, Liz Cass, and Eric Roach. For diversity, she was also a 'sweet inspiration' at The Continental Club for the Elvis shows for 6 years. Her new project is to create a cabaret of her memoirs…she’s got a lot of stories. Amy has been a Music Together teacher at Armstrong Community Music School in Austin for several years, and is now teaching privately for some of her treasured families. Amy believes there is so much fulfillment in BOTH teaching music and performing music. She is available for student vocal instruction, children’s parties, recording demos and voice over, as well as cabaret and live performances! You can hear her on https://soundcloud.com/amyhackerd
